Women in Wine and nine South African wine companies in collaboration with Wesgro, attended BAR 15 in Chicago, USA. BAR 15 is a wine, spirit and beer show aimed at restaurants, hotels and the leisure industry. It showcases the latest in bar and restaurant technology and offers wine and food pairing options to consumers, It is a total, interactive experience that helps owners, bartenders, executive buyers and chefs keep their bars relevant and competitive.
We were also invited to present our wines at an event that took place at the Chicago Embassy. The South African Consulate in Chicago was the setting for a premiere presentation of the Wines of South Africa, a unique collection of food-friendly and affordable wines that reflect the terroir and taste of this unique, emerging nation.
All the South African wines were received well and Americans are much more informed about South Africa as wine producing country than five years ago.
Guests showed good interest in the Women in Wine brand and the Women in Wine Euphrosyne Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve impressed wine tasters.
Among the standouts at the tasting, which also featured bites that reflected the local cuisine, were those from Seven Sisters Wines, develop by the seven sisters of the Brutus family from the tiny fishing village of Paternoster on the West Coast of South Africa.
A delegation of five women-owned companies also travelled to New York to interact with the trade and business people. South African wines will soon be on the shelves and in restaurant cellars in every major market in the United States.
